Renegades 27 - 15 Bobcats
Week 10 the final game of the Bournemouth Bobcats 2017 season found us facing off against the Berkshire Renegades on their home turf. The Bobcats approached this game looking to play for pride and the Renegades were looking for the win to secure the conference championship.
The Bobcats received the ball to start the game, unable to find the 1st down they had to punt to the Renegades offence whom were stopped by a fired-up Bobcats defence. This is how the first few encounters of the game went some high-octane plays produced by both team’s defensive units.
Deep into the second quarter the deadlock was broken, an excellent punt from Tarr #61 pinning the Renegades in their own 10 yards gave the defence the chance to pull out some big plays keeping them pinned back giving the ball to the offence with only 5 yards to go. With fantastic field position the Bobcats took advantage of this and QB Macdonald #1 powered into the end zone with the help of every player on offence pushing him in for his 13th touchdown of the season. The PAT good the score was 0-7 to the Bobcats.
The Renegades falling behind first kept to their game plan and managed to break for a big run play down the Bobcats right hand side to find the end zone almost instantly after the Bobcats took the lead. The PAT blocked by the Bobcats defence leaving the score at half time 6-7 to the Bobcats.
The half time the message was to keep up the intensity on defence and do not panic on offence. The start of the second half followed suit of the first a few defence stops on either side but the Bobcat defence was the first to bend. Some good offence plays by the Renegades resulted in their second touchdown of the day with the PAT good the score now 13-7 to the Renegades. As the superior numbers of the Renegades began to take advantage of the tiring yet hard-working Bobcats defence and produced within three drives another three touchdowns taking the score to 27-7 in what felt like a blink of an eye.
The ever-frustrated Bobcats offence continued to try and find a solution to the lack of 1st downs they were unable to find. With a never say die attitude they carried on running hard in the hands of RB Baker #26 and with a well-produced pass play on a 4th down call hit receiver Peck #11 with a 50-yard bomb for the Bobcats second touchdown of the day. The 2-point attempt good; a run in by Barnes #13, the Bobcats brought the game back to 27-15 making it back into a closer game.
Unfortunately, time was against the Bobcats and as the defence continued to win the ball back for the offence hey were unable to find the plays to get another score. The Bobcats played hard throughout with small numbers dues injuries the unfortunate story of a hard season with our record for the season finishing at 3-7.
Offensive MVP: Craig Paul Macdonald for leading on and off the field, a rushing TD and throwing a 50 yard TD.
Special mentions: Davy Bobcat Baker for pounding the rock all game and moving the chains.
Defensive MVP: Duncan Ross the biggest presence in the smallest package!
Special mention: Dale Powell first game back in a Bobcat shirt for a few years and brought his book of big hits with him and popped up with an interception too!!
Bobcats end season fighting with loss to conference champions.
